The use of the iPad, Android, or Windows mobile devices in the classroom has allowed for a shift in how notes can be taken and organized. Now, the traditional notebook is being replaced by the digital notebook. Best of all, students can replace multiple notebooks with an infinite (unlimited) number of digital notebooks on a single device.

You can even use your Evernote account on some one else’s device as well. All you have to to is log into your account and you can access all of your files, make changes and upload new information. However, if you do use another device to access your account it will be important to “Log Out” once you are done.

If you use the media services available in Evernote you may exceed the file size limitations of the free subscription.

Organization 整理

  • Create as many digital notebooks as needed. (Once for each subject)
  • Organize your notes by subject by creating multiple digital notebooks
  • Organize your notes in order easily

Note Taking

  • Take your own notes
  • Take photo notes (notes for the whiteboard or smart board)
  • Take audio notes (record a passage reading so you can listen to it multiple times)
  • Take video notes (Record a guest presenter)
  • Take document notes (Importing documents as notes. Can be done two ways)

Documents can be imported electronically by using the option of “Open In Evernote” when you are browsing a file server. This will import a digital copy of the note into your Digital Notebook.

The other option is importing a copy of paper notes. Evernote has the ability to use the camera in your smartphone, iPad or Windows tablet to scan documents for you. Select the “Copy Document” option and hold your mobile devices camera over the document you want to make a digital copy of. You will see a rectangle box appear on your screen. Center the document in this rectangle box, make sure you are holding your device level to the paper and hit copy. Evernote will create a digital copy of the document which has a much smaller file size than taking a traditional photo.

Ownership 所有权

Evernote provides you great file services, and you also retain ownership of your content. Evernote has no interest in the content that you make. The company hopes that you will like their services and possibly upgrade to the premium account. The only rights you give to Evernote is a limited license to convert files to a format that is more compatible with mobile devices. Evernote also checks to make sure that you are not posting copyrighted material that does not belong to you. This could be a copy of a professional movie or copies of an entire book.

*Most countries copyright laws will allow you to copy parts of a movie or text book for academic use.

Like Evernote many services provide you the ability to use a service for free, however it is important to read the terms and condition of usage. Many free applications will indicate that any content created, stored, or shared on the service becomes the property of the service provider. This can be a very big issue for students, business and entrepreneurs.

Think about what this could mean. What if you have been working on a University Ph.D. for ten years and you made a break through in your research. Now a large company wants to buy your work; however you have been using a free file service that indicated that you surrender your ownership of your content by using their service. Now you can no longer sell your work to the company with out lengthy and costly legal battles.

You may want to Patent your work, as a researcher or as a multi national company, but if you have been using some free file service you may not be able to patent your work anymore. Now that you have used a free file service you work is may no longer be considered original because it has been made available and shared to the public. Now an idea that could of been worth millions of dollars no longer belongs to you and you can not patent it to protect your ideas.

What if you were a photographer and you take amazing photos which you sell for a lot of money, but then you use a free service to share your photos. Soon after you see your work being used without your permission or sold for almost nothing and you are not getting any money for the sale of your own work.

When using a service it is very important to know and understand the terms of that service and how those terms will affect you.
