The Compass 指南针
Directions on a compass are read starting from the top most point, then reading clockwise around the compass. North is always at the top of every map compass, with the exception of the Australia Inverses World Map.
指南针的方向读取是从最顶端的点开始然后按照顺时针方向一一读取。任何一幅地图指南针图例中北总是居于最顶端，除了澳大利亚倒置世界地图。
Cardinal Points
基本方位:

Cardinal Points: The compass has four Cardinal Points, North, East, South, and West. These are the four most important directions on a compass.
基本方位：指南针有四个基本方位：北、东、南和西。这四个方位是指南针上的最重要的方位。
Ordinal Points
中间方位：

Ordinal Points: Between each Cardinal Point there is an Ordinal Point. These are the directions North East, South East, South West, and North West.
中间方位：在基本方位中间还有四个重要方位，分别是：东北、东南、西南和西北。
Note:notice in English North and South are considered the most important direction when describing Ordinal Points; therefore, in English the direction of North or South comes before the directions of East or West when describing the four Ordinal Points. This is the opposite of Chinese where East and West are indicated before North or South.
注：在英语中描述基本方位时北和南是最重要的，所以我们在说四个顺序方位时把北和南放在东和西的前面，而在汉语里却是相反的，汉语里把东西放在南北前面。

Compass Degrees: Directions on a compass can also be measured using degrees. North is always on the top of a compass and is indicated by the mathematical measurement of 00. East (900) is on the right side of a compass. South (1800) is at the bottom of compass, and West (2700) is on the left side of a compass.
指南针度数：指南针上的方位也是可以用度数来衡量的。而北一直是位于最顶端，度数为0度，东（90度）位于指南针的右端，南（180度）位于指南针的底端，西（270度）位于指南针的左端。
