Fairy Tale Nouns 童话故事里的名词
Instructions: Read the story and underline every singular noun that you can find. Then write down all of the different singular nouns in the column on the left side of the provided chart. Then once you have identified all of the singular nouns in the story you will need to apply the different spelling rules that you have learnt to convert each noun to its plural form. If you finish your assignment early you could even try rewriting the story to use plural nouns instead; however, in some cases you can’t just change the noun itself. Carefully consider the structure of each sentence and determine what changes might be necessary once the noun in the sentence has been changed.

Cinderella (A 1020 LEXILE Level Reading)
Long long ago, there lived an unhappy girl whose name was Cinderella. Her mother had died, and her father had took another woman to be his wife. The woman had a daughter of her own and her husband had also died too. But the stepmother did not like Cinderella and was always mean to her. The stepmother would only buy nice things like a pretty dress, necklace, or a nice gift for her own daughter, but Cinderella had to wash each and every dish and plate by hand and she also had to clean the entire house too. It took her all day for her to do every chore that her mean stepmother gave her. Sometimes she would even spend an hour talking to the cat. But her life suddenly changed when she met a prince after she lost a magical shoe made of glass at the prince’s party.

Sleeping Beauty (A 1010 LEXILE Level Reading)
Long, long ago, there was a king and a queen who were very sad because they did not have a child. But one day when the king’s wife was taking a shower, a frog jumped out and said to the queen,” You will have a daughter within the year.”
After a year, the queen had a little baby girl, and the baby was very pretty. The king was so happy that he decided to have a grand feast to celebrate the birth of his first child. He invited lots of people, anyone he considered a friend, and the wisest woman in each of the thirteen kingdoms to come. But the king only had a gold plate for twelve honoured guest so one woman could not attend the celebration.
The celebration was spectacular and everyone who attended the feast was very happy, but then the thirteenth woman came to seek revenge. She cried out in a loud voice, “The king’s daughter will die when she is fifteen” and then vanished.

Snow White (A 1090 LEXILE Level Reading)
Long long ago, a king and a queen had a daughter who they called Snow White, but a month later the queen suddenly died. The entire kingdom was devastated by the loss of their queen, but eventually the king got over the death of his first wife and married another woman. The new queen was a very beautiful person but she was not a kind individual. The queen manipulated people with her evil spells and she even had a magical mirror as well.
Every day she would ask “Mirror, mirror, who is the fairest in the land?” and it always replied, “You my queen are the fairest of them all”, but one day the mirror suddenly said something different. “My queen you are the fairest of them all but there will soon be another… When Snow White comes of age she will become the fairest of them all”.
The queen was so angry that her stepdaughter would soon become even more beautiful than her, so the queen decided that she needed to kill Snow White before her sixteenth birthday. Fortunately the queen’s evil plan failed and Snow White escaped from the castle. She ran into the forest where she found a very small house where she decided to hide in. Inside she found a little bed, seven of them actually, and since she was so tired she went to strait to the closes bed and fell asleep. She even had a single shoe still on her left foot when she fell asleep.
The house wasn’t empty though. It belonged to a dwarf family and when they returned they were very surprised to find a girl asleep in their home. At first the grumpy dwarf wanted Snow White to leave but Snow White bagged all of them to let her stay. “Please do not send me away, my evil step mother will kill me if you do” cried Snow White. They could not just send an innocent child away, she was such a nice girl, so each and every dwarf decided to let her stay in their home. Eventually they became like a family and under their protection Snow White lived happily ever after.
